Output Quality

Plain English

It is whether the thing produced is actually good enough to be useful.

Definition

Output quality is how accurate, useful, and relevant a produced result is for the task it was meant to serve. It covers more than correctness, taking in tone, format, and whether the result can actually be acted on.

In practice

Used to assess whether a or is producing value.

In context

It needs defining before launch, not after complaints. Without an agreed standard, quality debates become a contest of anecdotes about outputs people happened to notice.

The reality

If weak, drops quickly.

Compared with

Output Quality vs Model Accuracy

Accuracy compares outputs to known correct answers. Output quality includes accuracy but also usefulness, tone, format, and fitness for the task. An accurate answer in the wrong form is still a poor output.

I had a fantastic experience working with Andy. One of his most impressive achievements during our time at NHS HEE was masterminding a deeply complex information architecture for a new platform that brought together a large number of legacy websites.
