Cookie policy
This policy explains the site’s analytics controls, cookies and browser storage. It includes findings from a Chrome Guest-session check on 5 November 2026.
Cookies and browser storage
Cookies and similar storage can remember choices or help measure use of a website. This site uses browser storage for preferences as well as Google Analytics when JavaScript is available.
Your analytics choice
Use the Cookies control to accept or reject analytics cookies. Advertising cookies stay off. Your choice is stored under asd_analytics_consent_v1 for 180 days. You can change it at any time using the same control.
Google Analytics
The current implementation uses Google consent mode. Cookieless measurement signals can be sent before you choose and when analytics cookies are rejected. Accepting analytics allows analytics storage. Rejecting analytics updates the consent setting and attempts to remove Google Analytics cookies accessible to this website. The site is designed not to load Google Analytics when JavaScript is disabled.
Other preferences
The site stores the page-animation preference under andyscott-motion in local storage. This code does not set an expiry for that preference; it remains until changed or browser storage is cleared. Session storage also supports search attribution, referral attribution and work-page interaction measurement. The storage keys used by the implementation are listed below.
Vercel Speed Insights is included to measure website performance. Its purpose is to help identify website performance problems.
Storage inventory from the implementation
This is an inventory of the implementation, not a completed browser-storage audit. Vercel describes Speed Insights data points as anonymous and not enabling identification of a user or reconstruction of a cross-page browsing session; the deployed configuration still needs verification. Some session-storage attribution currently operates independently of the analytics-cookie choice.
- asd_analytics_consent_v1 — local storage; remembers the analytics choice for 180 days.
- andyscott-motion — local storage; remembers the animation preference until it is changed or site data is cleared.
- asd_internal_search_context_v1 — session storage; associates a search with later navigation. The code uses a 30-minute attribution window; storage remains for the browser session.
- asd_ai_referral_context_v1 — session storage; records referral context during the browser session.
- work-keyline-drawn:* and work-keyline-lifecycle-initialized — session storage; control work-page presentation during the browser session.
- _ga and _ga_950CL8F65H — Google Analytics cookies observed on the live site after acceptance. In the Chrome test their expiry was approximately 400 days after they were set; browser limits and settings can affect this lifetime.
Production checks on 5 November 2026
In a fresh Chrome Guest session on andyscott.digital, no site cookies or local/session storage entries were observed on the homepage before a choice. Rejecting analytics saved the rejected preference and left no site cookies after reload. Accepting analytics created _ga and _ga_950CL8F65H, which remained after reload. Withdrawing consent through Reject analytics removed both cookies; they remained absent after another reload.
Google tag and measurement requests were observed before consent and after rejection with consent denied. Rejecting analytics cookies therefore does not stop all measurement traffic. These checks cover the sampled homepage session, not every page, browser, third-party cookie or session-storage workflow.
Managing storage
You can change your analytics choice on this site and clear cookies or site data through your browser settings. Clearing site data can remove saved preferences, so the site may ask you to choose again.
