ABOUT ME

With nearly two decades of experience within the design industry I have been fortunate to work across some amazing projects. I can bring this breadth of knowledge with me to help you to innovate and bring your ideas to life.

About me

Curiosity turned into a career
I’ve always been fascinated by how things work—and more importantly, how they could work better. When UX wasn’t even a recognised field, I was already thinking about how people interact with technology and how to make those interactions easier. That curiosity has stuck with me ever since, leading me to work across banking, gaming, telecoms, government services, and travel, helping businesses improve the way they connect with their users.

20+ Years of experience

Solving problems across industries, all over the world
I’ve been doing this for over 20 years, working across banking, gaming, telecoms, government services, and travel, solving problems for businesses all over the world. No matter the project, my approach is always the same—break down the problem, focus on what really matters, and create something that actually works for the people using it.

I love a challenge

The bigger the problem, the better
I love working on things that seem impossible at first, the ones that make you stop and think, “How are we actually going to fix this?” Whether it was consolidating 400 NHS websites into a single platform, helping Barclays build an in-house design team, or guiding Co-op Bank through modernising their services, I’ve always enjoyed untangling complexity and making things simple, clear, and useful.

How I work

Simplify, understand, and break it down
I like to strip things back to their simplest form. No unnecessary layers, no overcomplication. First, I try to fully understand the industry and the people using the service—what they need, what frustrates them, what actually matters. Then, I break the problem down piece by piece until we get to a solution that works.

Big overhauls or quick fixes

Some projects need strategy, some need speed
Some projects need big, strategic thinking that takes time, while others are about quick wins that make an instant impact. I’ve worked on both, and I enjoy both. Sometimes, change needs to happen gradually, working within system constraints. Other times, it’s about spotting simple fixes that make a huge difference overnight. Either way, it’s about focusing on the right things, not just doing things for the sake of it.

What I actually do

Making things that just work
I help businesses simplify complicated systems, make things easier to use, and remove the frustrations that stop people from doing what they need to do. That could be fixing broken user journeys, improving accessibility, increasing conversions, or designing something completely from scratch. Lately, I’ve also been looking at how AI can actually improve experiences—not just adding a chatbot to a website, but using it in ways that genuinely make things better.

It has to work for everyone

Accessibility isn’t optional
Guesswork isn’t good enough. If something isn’t designed with real users in mind, it’s probably not going to work. That’s why testing, research, and real-world validation are always part of my process. I also believe that if something isn’t accessible to everyone, it’s broken. Digital services should work for all users, not just the tech-savvy ones.

No one does it alone

The best work happens when teams collaborate
Great products don’t come from designers working in isolation. The best results happen when teams actually work together—designers, developers, researchers, and stakeholders all moving in the same direction. It’s not about following a rigid process or ticking boxes, it’s about making something that actually works.
TESTIMONIALS

Listen to the people

Real experiences. Real feedback. Real results.
Andrew delivers what's expected and more. His integration into the team was fast and seamless and he was productive from the start. His insight and experience in UX has been utterly invaluable. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Ben Sears
Director of Technology
Quite simply the best user experience professional I have had the pleasure to work with. Astute, creative, innovative, and with the user at the heart of everything he does. I have no hesitation in recommending Andrew.
Jo Blackwell
Senior Content Designer
Adept and constructively critical. Andy is no yes man. He’s exactly what difficult and high pressured deliveries need. Outstanding governance is second nature, digital development and delivery based on expertise without peers is something hard to find. If you get chance, snap it up!
Dave Clinton
Digital Programme Director
I really enjoyed working with Andy. His talent and experience were absolutely invaluable to our project. We were working on a large-scale and very complex project with many stakeholders and moving parts. Andy's consistent and comprehensive focus on all aspects of user experience brought an essential
coherence to the team's work.

Andy is an excellent person to think and talk things through with. He is one of those rare people who is equally capable working on both high-level strategy and fine detail. He adapted a broader design system to meet our users' and organisation's needs, and made sure that the multiple individuals and teams using the system had the design principles, processes and guidance needed to work on our platform.

If you're looking for someone who can combine depth of experience with creative inventiveness to solve problems for your users, and who can provide leadership for your team in user-centred design, then Andy's a great person to work with.
I had a fantastic experience working with Andy. One of his most impressive achievements during our time at NHS HEE was masterminding a deeply complex information architecture for a new platform that brought together a large number of legacy websites. In our many engagement sessions with stakeholders, he was brilliant at getting people onside by communicating the story behind the product and his design work. He's a great collaborator who's fun to work with and able to take on the knottiest of design challenges.
Worked closely with Andy on the early incarnation of Situ Live UX, Highly experienced designer who instantly hit the ground running, quickly putting place design principles, tools and took charge of the design work whilst confidently educated the wider team on the value of UX planning and development. Sadly shortened engagement due to pandemic impact on the business if he hasn't been snapped up elsewhere will be looking to pick up where we left off in the coming months!
I had the pleasure of working with Andy on a multi-million £ digital program providing identity verification / assurance across a number of markets. Andy ably led the UX stream e2e for the entire program. This involved sourcing / selecting a usability partner, creating designs for new features, driving usability testing across key demographics, supporting client stage gates & utilising web analytics to drive UX enhancements.

Andy is a fantastic person to work with and immediately at ease liaising with senior stakeholders and developers / testers alike. He brings a wealth of knowledge and this coupled with his ability to base designs and recommendations on science / data quickly gains trust from those around him. Andy acts with urgency and I always found he would deliver against the commitments he makes. I witnessed first hand the impact Andy had on the consumer (1m customers) sign up process where conversion rates increased 168% as a result of his efforts. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Andy again and would recommend him highly to others.
Couldn’t recommend Andrew highly enough. We gained complete faith and trust in him at a very early stage. With us through our project from start to finish. Always one step ahead of the game hence now we are. A real 5 star service.
Andrew is a well rounded designer but also a valued member of a team. He is passionate about good user experience and will work hard to ensure the best possible outcome in any project he works on. It is a pleasure to work with him.
I come from a technical and programmatic background (managing business and systems requirements, experience of working with several UI/UX teams) and working with Andrew Scott was a pleasant master class in user experience and interface design.

While I concentrated on business requirements and system functionality, Andrew Scott breathed life into the requirements by designing user interfaces that were beautiful and engaging. His designs reduced the website navigation and also minimised the number of clicks required to perform a given action.

I would confidently recommend Andrew Scott to any company who want not just a stunning user interface, but also a holistic user experience centered on how customers can easily use your website to achieve your business goals.
Andrew has just completed the first phase of UX project on behalf of one of our clients. Andrew has a deep knowledge and understanding of user-centred design and is armed with a full bag of design tricks up the proverbial sleeve, such as personas, scenarios, storyboards, design sketching and rapid prototyping; and - one thing that has impressed our whole marketing team is he knows when and where to use them. I have know problem recommending Andrew for any UX strategy project, be that for desktop applications, kiosks, mobile apps or websites.
